Mapusa, Goa: A successful blood donation camp organised by Loving Hearts Goa in collaboration with St. Mary’s Convent High School, Mapusa, and the North Goa District Hospital, Asilo Blood Bank, resulted in the collection of 37 units of blood, with the potential to save approximately 111 lives.
The camp was held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the school premises and received an encouraging response from parents, teachers, staff, and well-wishers who came forward to support the life-saving initiative.
Creating Awareness Before the Camp
Prior to the donation drive, Gabriel Pereira, Secretary of Loving Hearts Goa, addressed parents during the Annual General Body Meeting of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). He highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation and explained how a single blood donation can benefit multiple patients through component separation.
He encouraged parents to become regular voluntary donors, stressing that maintaining an adequate blood supply is essential for hospitals treating accident victims, surgery patients, cancer patients, and those requiring emergency transfusions.
Strong Community Participation
The success of the camp was made possible through the wholehearted support of the teachers from the Pre-Primary, Primary, and High School sections. Awareness about the initiative was spread through digital posters, flyers, and registration links shared via teachers’ WhatsApp groups, encouraging parents and guardians to register in advance.
A total of 52 individuals registered for the camp. Following mandatory medical screening conducted by the blood bank team, 37 donors were declared eligible and successfully donated blood.
Gratitude to All Contributors
At the conclusion of the camp, Mark D’Souza, President of Loving Hearts Goa, and Gabriel Pereira, Secretary of Loving Hearts Goa, expressed sincere gratitude to Headmistress Sr. Rosarina A.C., the teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, NCC student volunteers, and the medical team from the North Goa District Hospital, Asilo Blood Bank for their invaluable support.
The organisers also appreciated the dedicated efforts of the teachers whose awareness campaign and motivation played a vital role in ensuring the camp’s success.
Every Donation Makes a Difference
With 37 units of blood collected, the organisers noted that the donations could potentially save 111 lives, as each unit of blood can be separated into different components and used to treat up to three patients.
Loving Hearts Goa expressed hope that the success of this initiative would inspire more citizens to become regular voluntary blood donors and continue supporting the gift of life.
