Goa continues to strengthen its position as one of India’s most preferred travel destinations, with railway tourist arrivals registering a steady increase during the first five months of 2026.
According to the latest tourism arrival data, 19,87,862 travellers arrived in Goa by rail between January and May 2026, marking a 6.8% growth compared to the 18,60,568 railway arrivals recorded during the same period in 2025.
The figures also represent a 6.5% increase compared to January-May 2024, highlighting the sustained demand for rail travel among domestic tourists visiting Goa.
Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte said the rise in railway arrivals reflects growing traveller confidence in Goa as a year-round destination.
He highlighted that improved rail connectivity, expansion of tourism beyond beaches, and focus on experiences such as heritage, spirituality, hinterland tourism, wellness, adventure, culture and monsoon tourism have encouraged more visitors to explore the state.
The month-wise data showed consistent growth across all five months:
- January 2026: 4,43,621 arrivals (up from 4,25,913)
- February 2026: 3,56,319 arrivals (up from 3,43,921)
- March 2026: 3,59,131 arrivals (up from 3,20,195)
- April 2026: 3,74,691 arrivals (up from 3,66,033)
- May 2026: 4,54,100 arrivals (up from 4,04,506)
The increase highlights the importance of railway connectivity in supporting Goa’s domestic tourism sector. Rail travel continues to remain a preferred choice for families, groups and young travellers due to affordability and convenience.
Director of Tourism Kedar Naik said the consistent growth reflects Goa’s increasing accessibility and the success of efforts to promote tourism throughout the year.
He added that rail connectivity plays an important role in bringing visitors from across India and enabling them to experience Goa’s diverse offerings.
With infrastructure development and improved connectivity, Goa aims to build a stronger and more sustainable tourism ecosystem that benefits visitors, local communities and the state economy.
