Dil Raju Nears ₹105 Crore Deal for Ramayana Telugu Rights Ahead of 2026 Release

One of the biggest pre-release business deals in Indian cinema could be taking shape, with producer and distributor Dil Raju reportedly nearing a ₹105 crore agreement for the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana theatrical rights of Ramayana.

The ambitious mythological epic, backed by Prime Focus Studios and Monster Mind Creations, is scheduled for a worldwide release on November 6, 2026, as the first instalment of a planned two-film series.

According to reports, Sri Venkateswara Creations, the banner associated with Dil Raju, is negotiating for the AP and Telangana distribution rights through a deal structured largely around a recoverable advance.

If finalised, the agreement would mark one of the most significant distribution deals for a dubbed pan-Indian film in the Telugu market.

A reported ₹105 crore deal

The reported deal is said to be valued at approximately ₹105 crore, highlighting the strong pre-release expectations surrounding the mythological spectacle.

However, the scale of the investment also means that the Telugu version of the film could face a challenging journey at the box office.

Reports suggest that the distributors could be targeting a theatrical breakeven of around ₹200 crore in the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana markets, which would make it one of the highest recovery targets for a dubbed pan-Indian release in the region.

The deal is reportedly being structured primarily as a recoverable advance, potentially reducing some of the financial risk while still placing significant expectations on the film’s theatrical performance.

Sai Pallavi to play Sita

The two-part cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic has already generated considerable anticipation among audiences.

Sai Pallavi, one of the most popular actors in South Indian cinema, will portray Sita, adding significant interest to the project across Telugu-speaking markets.

With Ramayana being developed as a large-scale pan-Indian production, its performance across multiple languages will be closely watched.

Dil Raju’s high-stakes distribution strategy

The reported Ramayana deal comes after Dil Raju’s involvement in another major pre-release acquisition linked to Yash’s Toxic.

The producer’s interest in high-budget, high-expectation projects reflects the growing importance of distribution rights and regional markets in India’s increasingly interconnected film industry.

Major pan-Indian productions are now depending heavily on their ability to perform beyond their original language markets, making territories such as Andhra Pradesh and Telangana crucial to their overall box-office success.

Can Ramayana meet the Telugu market expectations?

Despite the strong buzz surrounding Ramayana, the reported breakeven target has also raised questions about whether a Bollywood-led mythological film can generate the required numbers in the Telugu-speaking market.

The Telugu audience has consistently supported major pan-Indian films, particularly those that create strong local appeal and word-of-mouth. However, recovering an estimated ₹200 crore from a dubbed release would require an exceptionally strong theatrical performance.

The film’s scale, mythology-driven narrative and star power could work in its favour, while the presence of Sai Pallavi may also strengthen its connect with audiences in the South.

As negotiations reportedly move closer to completion, all eyes will now be on the final structure of the deal and the film’s promotional campaign ahead of its November 6, 2026 release.

With Ramayana planned as a two-part epic, the first film’s box-office performance could also play a major role in shaping expectations for the next chapter.
