Goa’s Ekadasha Teertha initiative has begun its journey towards making the state’s spiritual and cultural heritage more accessible, with the first tour taking 27 women across four important temples in a single day.
The initiative, launched as a curated spiritual tourism circuit, brings together 11 revered temples across Goa and offers visitors an organised way to explore the state’s rich religious and cultural heritage.
A key highlight is the 50% concession for senior citizens, aimed at making the spiritual experience more affordable and accessible to elderly travellers.
Four temples covered in the first tour
The first Ekadasha Teertha tour was flagged off from Tambdi Surla and covered four temples:
- Shree Mahadev Temple, Tambdi Surla
- Shree Devkikrishna Devasthan, Marcel
- Shree Mahaganapati Devasthan, Khandola
- Shree Anant Devasthan, Savoi-Verem
The one-day circuit allowed participants to visit multiple places of worship through organised travel arrangements and facilities.
Rohan Khaunte highlights Goa’s spiritual heritage
Goa Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte said the initiative reflects the state’s vision of showcasing Goa beyond conventional tourism.
He said Goa’s identity is deeply connected with its centuries-old traditions, historic temples and unique heritage, adding that the Ekadasha Teertha Yatra aims to offer visitors a more holistic experience of the state.
According to the Minister, the initiative forms part of efforts to diversify Goa’s tourism offerings through sustainable and experience-led tourism while celebrating the cultural and spiritual character of the state.
GTDC backs curated spiritual tourism
GTDC Chairman Shri Kedar J. Naik said the initiative has been designed to make Goa’s spiritual and cultural heritage more accessible through an organised travel experience.
He described the successful completion of the first tour as an encouraging beginning and said the initiative would help more visitors discover destinations beyond Goa’s conventional tourism circuits.
Women participants welcome the initiative
For the 27 women who participated in the first tour, the journey offered an opportunity to explore several lesser-known spiritual destinations together.
One participant said the group had never imagined being able to visit four temples in a single day and appreciated the arrangements made for the journey.
Another participant highlighted the sense of togetherness among the women and said the organised facilities made the experience comfortable and enjoyable.
Taking Goa beyond conventional tourism
The Ekadasha Teertha initiative seeks to encourage travellers to explore Goa through its temples, traditions and spiritual heritage, rather than limiting their experience to conventional tourism destinations.
With its senior citizen concession and organised tours, the initiative also aims to make spiritual tourism more inclusive.
The completion of the first tour marks the beginning of the wider rollout, with more visitors expected to explore the 11-temple Ekadasha Teertha circuit in the coming months.
