Madkai, Goa: Students of the Goa College of Agriculture, Ela Farm, Old Goa, participated in a hands-on paddy transplanting activity at Aksan, Madkai, as part of the Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) programme.
The activity provided the students with an opportunity to move beyond classroom learning and gain practical exposure to the various stages of rice cultivation. Paddy transplanting is an important agricultural practice that requires proper planting techniques, spacing and field management to support healthy crop growth.
During the activity, the students actively participated in transplanting paddy seedlings in the field, gaining first-hand experience of the methods followed by farmers in rice cultivation.
The practical session also helped students understand the physical effort and technical knowledge involved in farming, while giving them a closer insight into the realities of agricultural livelihoods.
Such field-based activities under the RAWE programme play an important role in connecting agricultural education with real-world farming practices. They enable future agricultural professionals to interact with rural communities and develop a better understanding of local cultivation methods and challenges.
The paddy transplanting activity at Aksan, Madkai, therefore served as a valuable learning experience for the students while highlighting the importance of preserving and understanding Goa’s traditional agricultural practices.
