Madkai: Students of the Goa College of Agriculture, Ela Farm, Old Goa, conducted a practical demonstration on the preparation and use of Jeevamrut for farmers at Madkai under the RAWE (Rural Agricultural Work Experience) Programme.
The initiative aimed to create awareness about natural farming practices and encourage farmers to explore locally prepared organic inputs that can support soil health and healthy crop growth.
Students Demonstrate Jeevamrut Preparation
The student team comprising Valene De Souza, Sancia Fernandes, Sakshi Patil, Milrine Carvalho, Yadhnesha Gaonkar and Bhumika Mandrekar conducted the demonstration for farmers.
During the session, the students explained the complete process involved in preparing Jeevamrut, a naturally fermented liquid organic fertilizer.
They provided practical information on its preparation, fermentation process, application and potential benefits for agricultural production.
Encouraging Natural Inputs
The demonstration focused on encouraging farmers to incorporate natural inputs into their farming practices.
The students explained how Jeevamrut can be prepared and used as part of natural farming approaches, with emphasis on maintaining soil health and supporting crop growth.
Following the completion of the fermentation process, the prepared Jeevamrut was filled into bottles and distributed among participating farmers.
The distribution gave farmers an opportunity to practically adopt the natural input demonstrated during the programme.
Students Connect Agricultural Education With Farmers
The initiative under the RAWE Programme provided agriculture students with an opportunity to interact directly with farmers and translate their academic knowledge into practical field-based learning.
Such demonstrations can also help strengthen communication between agricultural institutions and farming communities while promoting awareness of sustainable agricultural practices.
