Glasgow: Indian weightlifter Harjinder Kaur added another medal to India’s tally at the Commonwealth Games 2026, securing a silver medal in the women’s 69kg weightlifting event with a career-best performance.
The 28-year-old athlete from Nabha, Punjab, produced the best performance of her career by registering a total lift of 227kg. She successfully lifted 101kg in the snatch and 126kg in the clean and jerk, earning the second spot on the podium.
Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau claimed the gold medal with an impressive total of 235kg, comprising 108kg in the snatch and 127kg in the clean and jerk.
Speaking after her medal-winning performance, an emotional Harjinder expressed immense pride in representing the nation.
“I am very happy to win the silver medal for India. I feel really proud. I am very happy with my performance. I will dedicate my medal to my family. I am thankful to the Indian Federation and the Indian Government that they helped us reach here.”
Harjinder’s medal is another significant achievement for Indian weightlifting at the Glasgow Games and reflects the continued rise of Indian athletes on the international stage.
