Camurlim, Goa: Promoting digital awareness and cyber safety among citizens, especially senior citizens, Colvale Police Station conducted a Cyber Safety Awareness Talk on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at St. Rita De Cascia Church Hall, Camurlim, on the occasion of Grandparents’ Day.
The programme was jointly organised by St. Rita De Cascia Parish Pastoral Council (PPC), Parish Youth, Colvale Police Station, and Prestige XI, bringing together over 70 local parishioners, including grandparents, parents, and youth members.
Creating Awareness About Rising Cyber Threats
The awareness session was conducted by Cyber Yoddha Sahil Awasthi, who educated participants about the increasing number of cyber crimes affecting people across the country.
He explained various forms of online fraud, including:
- Digital arrest scams
- OTP and banking frauds
- Investment scams
- Social media frauds
- Phishing attacks
- Online financial frauds
- Other emerging cyber threats
Participants were also provided with practical cyber safety tips to help them identify suspicious activities, safeguard their personal information, and use the internet responsibly.
Real-Life Cases Highlighted by Goa Police
The programme concluded with an informative address by PSI Sahil V. Warang of Goa Police, who shared real-life cyber crime case studies to demonstrate how easily individuals can become victims of online fraud.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant, verify unknown calls and messages before responding, and immediately report cyber offences through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and the official cybercrime helpline whenever required.
Focus on Senior Citizens
As the programme coincided with Grandparents’ Day, special emphasis was placed on protecting senior citizens, who are increasingly targeted by cyber fraudsters.
Organisers encouraged family members to educate elderly relatives about common online scams and safe digital practices, helping create a more cyber-aware community.
Community Appreciation
The Parish Priest and local residents appreciated the efforts of Colvale Police Station for organising the awareness programme and educating citizens on protecting themselves against cyber crime.
The initiative reflected a shared commitment by all collaborating organisations towards strengthening digital literacy, promoting responsible internet usage, and building safer communities.
The programme concluded with a powerful message encouraging everyone to stay alert while using digital platforms:
