Aldona: St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Aldona celebrated its 34th Institution Day with a meaningful programme centred on student leadership, social responsibility and drug awareness. The institution organised an Anti-Drug Awareness Programme in collaboration with the Goa Police Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC) and Mapusa Police Station, reaffirming its commitment to building a safe, healthy and responsible student community.
The celebrations began with a Prayer Service, followed by the installation of several student clubs, including the Prahari Club, Disaster Management Club, National Service Scheme (NSS), Youth Red Cross (YRC), Red Ribbon Club, Eco Club and Consumer Club.
An oath of commitment was administered to the newly inducted student members by Principal Mrs. Angelica Fernandes, encouraging them to uphold the values of leadership, discipline and community service.
The programme was graced by Manager Rev. Fr. Roxy Fernandes, Principal Mrs. Angelica Fernandes, PSI Shri Dindayalnath Redkar of the Anti Narcotic Cell, Panaji, PSI Ms. Raveena Sawtodkar of Mapusa Police Station, ASI Shri Ajay Gaonkar, LPC Ms. Sneha Mayekar, Ms. Bhavya Gaonkar, and Police Constables Shri Kishan Mandrekar and Shri Rohit Naik from the Anti Narcotic Cell.
Addressing the gathering, Rev. Fr. Roxy Fernandes emphasised the importance of value-based education and urged students to remain disciplined, responsible and committed to building a healthy, drug-free society.
Delivering the keynote awareness session through a PowerPoint presentation, PSI Shri Dindayalnath Redkar educated students on the harmful effects of drug abuse, smoking and alcohol consumption. Reinforcing the message, “Drugs Drag You Down – Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs,” he encouraged students to make informed decisions, resist peer pressure and protect themselves, their families and society from substance abuse.
PSI Ms. Raveena Sawtodkar also addressed the students, highlighting the importance of personal safety, responsible behaviour and respect for the law. She advised students against riding two-wheelers without a valid driving licence and urged them to become responsible and law-abiding citizens.
The programme was compered by Mrs. Alice Mathias, while the event was coordinated by Shri Amarnath Panjikar, Tr. Josephine D’Souza, Sr. Daryl Abranches, along with the club in-charges and teaching faculty.
The Institution Day concluded with a collective pledge by students and staff to uphold the ideals of discipline, healthy living, leadership and social responsibility, making the celebration both inspiring and impactful.
