New Delhi: Hon’ble Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Shri Harivansh, unveiled the landmark publication “75 Years of Indian Democracy: The Indian Election Story in Facts & Figures (1950–2025)” and released the inaugural issues of two peer-reviewed quarterly journals at his official residence in New Delhi.
Published by Indiastat Publications, the book documents India’s electoral journey from 1950 to 2025, presenting one of the country’s most comprehensive compilations of electoral statistics, constitutional developments and democratic milestones.
The publication offers a year-wise account of elections to the offices of the President, Vice-President, Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, supported by detailed statistical tables, timelines, charts and tenure records. An additional section covering major electoral and political developments from January to June 2026 has also been included, making the book an up-to-date reference on India’s democratic evolution.
Alongside the book launch, Shri Harivansh released the inaugural editions of the Indian Journal of Electoral Studies (IJES) and the Indian Journal of Socio-Economic Studies (IJSES).
The Indian Journal of Electoral Studies aims to promote research on electoral systems, democratic institutions, election administration, voting behaviour, electoral reforms and comparative electoral studies.
Meanwhile, the Indian Journal of Socio-Economic Studies will provide a platform for evidence-based research focusing on India’s economy, governance, public policy, society and sustainable development.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Harivansh emphasised the importance of scholarly documentation and evidence-based research in strengthening democratic institutions. He noted that comprehensive publications documenting India’s democratic journey serve as valuable reference resources for researchers, policymakers and future generations.
Dr. R. K. Thukral, Director of Indiastat Publications and Editor of the book and both journals, said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to making authentic electoral and socio-economic data more accessible to policymakers, researchers, academic institutions and the wider public.
The publications are expected to become important reference resources for Members of Parliament, election administrators, academicians, journalists, students and researchers interested in India’s democratic and developmental journey.
