Porvorim, Goa:
Shri Suresh Gopi, Hon’ble Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Tourism, Government of India, arrived in Goa on an official visit and was accorded a warm welcome by senior officials of the Goa Government and Tourism Department.
The Union Minister was received by Shri Sandip Jacques, IAS, Secretary Tourism, Government of Goa; Shri Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism; Shri Kuldeep Arolkar, Managing Director, Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC); and Shri Shawn Mendes, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Hon’ble Tourism Minister, along with other dignitaries.
Visit to Porvorim Town Square
As part of his visit, Shri Suresh Gopi toured the Porvorim Town Square project, a landmark initiative envisioned as a dynamic public space designed to encourage community interaction, cultural engagement and citizen participation.
The project aims to create a vibrant urban destination where residents and visitors can come together for social, cultural and recreational activities while enhancing the overall public experience.
Review of Tourism Initiatives
During the visit, the Union Minister reviewed several ongoing and upcoming tourism projects in Goa and held discussions with senior officials from the Tourism Department.
The review focused on strengthening tourism infrastructure, enhancing visitor experiences and exploring opportunities to further position Goa as a leading tourism destination.
Officials briefed the Minister on various initiatives being undertaken to support sustainable tourism growth, destination development and community-centric projects across the state.
Focus on Tourism Development
The visit underscores the continued collaboration between the Government of India and the Government of Goa in promoting tourism-led development and improving tourism infrastructure.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of creating innovative public spaces and tourism experiences that contribute to local economic growth while preserving Goa’s unique cultural identity.
