The Yoga Institute Celebrates 12th International Day of Yoga with Nationwide Programmes Promoting Healthy Ageing

Mumbai: The Yoga Institute (TYI), Santacruz, Mumbai, the world’s oldest organized yoga centre and a pioneer in holistic health education for more than 107 years, celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 with extensive programmes across India and abroad.

Aligned with this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the institute reached lakhs of participants through hundreds of programmes conducted at government institutions, defence establishments, educational campuses, corporate offices, airports and digital platforms.

From Mumbai to Chennai, Jaipur to Bhubaneswar, the celebrations highlighted yoga’s role in preventive healthcare, mental well-being, resilience and conscious living.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Hansaji Yogendra, Director of The Yoga Institute, said:

“Ageing is a natural process, but decline is not. Through yoga, we can maintain strength in the body, clarity in the mind, balance in the emotions, and joy in the heart. Healthy ageing is not about adding years to life alone; it is about adding vitality, independence, and purpose to every year of life.”

Three-Day Online Yoga Festival

One of the major highlights was the 3-Day Online Yoga Festival (June 19–21), which attracted participants from around the world.

The festival featured sessions by renowned personalities including Gauranga Das Ji, Ryan Fernando, Mickey Mehta, and senior teachers from The Yoga Institute. Discussions focused on healthy ageing through meditation, nutrition, stress management and sound healing.
