Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bratislava on a landmark state visit, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Slovakia since the country gained independence in 1993.
The historic visit marks a significant milestone in India-Slovakia relations and reflects the growing engagement between the two nations in areas of diplomacy, trade, technology, and cultural cooperation.
Upon his arrival in Bratislava, Prime Minister Modi was received by Slovakia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Juraj Blanár. As part of the official welcome, the Prime Minister participated in the traditional Slovak bread-and-salt ceremony, a centuries-old custom symbolising hospitality, respect, friendship, and goodwill towards distinguished guests.
The visit is expected to strengthen bilateral ties and open new avenues for collaboration between India and Slovakia. Discussions are anticipated to focus on economic partnerships, innovation, education, defence cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.
The ceremonial welcome highlighted the warmth of diplomatic relations between the two countries and underscored Slovakia’s commitment to deepening engagement with India.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit is being viewed as an important step towards enhancing India’s presence and partnerships in Central Europe while reinforcing mutual cooperation on global and regional issues.
