In a significant development for the Hindi film industry, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has withdrawn its earlier non-cooperation directive against Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh.
The decision comes weeks after the federation urged its members not to work with the actor following allegations that he abruptly exited the highly anticipated film Don 3 shortly before production was scheduled to begin.
What Triggered the Dispute?
The controversy began after filmmaker Farhan Akhtar and Excel Entertainment reportedly complained that Ranveer Singh withdrew from the project after substantial pre-production work had already been completed.
According to reports, producers had invested approximately ₹45 crore in pre-production activities before the alleged exit. As a result, FWICE issued a non-cooperation directive on May 25, seeking clarification from the actor.
The situation took a turn after reports emerged that Ranveer Singh had sent a legal notice to FWICE challenging the federation’s action.
Although the contents of the notice have not been made public, the move prompted further discussions within the industry.
FWICE President B.N. Tiwari subsequently stated that the industry stood behind the actor and confirmed that the federation’s legal team would respond to the notice.
FWICE Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit revealed that the decision to withdraw the boycott followed requests from several film industry organisations.
Speaking to media outlets, Pandit emphasized that the federation does not possess the authority to formally ban any actor and expressed hope for a positive resolution through dialogue.
He also urged Ranveer Singh to meet with the federation to settle the matter amicably.
While Ranveer Singh has not publicly commented on the controversy, his spokesperson previously stated that the actor holds the film industry and the Don franchise in the highest regard and has chosen to remain silent on the matter.
Announced in 2023, Don 3 was positioned as the next chapter in one of Bollywood’s most iconic action franchises.
Originally launched by legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan in 1978 and later rebooted with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role, the franchise has remained one of Indian cinema’s most successful action series.
Ranveer Singh was selected to headline the latest installment, generating significant excitement among fans.
Despite the controversy, Ranveer Singh remains one of Bollywood’s most bankable stars. Known for films such as Padmaavat and Gully Boy, he recently enjoyed major box-office success with the spy thriller franchise Dhurandhar.
With FWICE withdrawing its directive, industry observers will now be watching closely to see whether the Don 3 dispute reaches an amicable conclusion and what lies ahead for both the actor and the franchise.
