Fr. Agnel College, Pilar has officially welcomed Prof. (Dr.) Annie Rajan Pilar as its new Principal, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the institution’s academic journey.
The formal handover ceremony was attended by members of the college administration, faculty, and staff. Speaking on the occasion, Rev. Fr. Anthony D’Silva highlighted Dr. Rajan’s distinguished academic career spanning over 28 years at DCT’s Dhempe College, where she served as an Associate Professor. He also acknowledged her significant contribution as the Coordinator of the IGNOU Study Centre.
Prof. (Dr.) Annie Rajan holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Mumbai. Her doctoral research focused on developing a Machine Translation Toolkit for Konkani, reflecting her commitment to advancing technology for regional languages.
Her areas of expertise include:
- Natural Language Processing (NLP)
- Machine Translation
- Computational Linguistics
- Low-resource Indian Languages
- Language Technology Research
Her work has contributed significantly to the field of language computing, particularly in promoting and preserving regional languages through technology.
During the ceremony, Rev. Fr. Jerry Vaz presented Dr. Rajan with a bouquet as a gesture of welcome. The event was also attended by Rev. Dr. Frederico Rodrigues and Rev. Fr. Milton Rodrigues.
The non-teaching staff members were introduced to the new Principal, fostering an atmosphere of collaboration and community spirit.
The college community expressed confidence in Dr. Rajan’s leadership and academic vision. Faculty, staff, and students extended their warm wishes and pledged their full cooperation during her tenure.
