Karan Johar’s Shocking Instagram Unfollow Spree Sparks Buzz; Priyanka Chopra Still on Following List

Filmmaker Karan Johar has set social media abuzz after reportedly unfollowing several Bollywood celebrities on Instagram, including some of his closest friends and long-time collaborators such as Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Manish Malhotra, Farah Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and others.

Interestingly, while most Bollywood celebrities disappeared from his following list, Priyanka Chopra Jonas continues to remain among the few people Karan still follows on Instagram. The unexpected move has left fans and netizens shocked, confused and curious about the reason behind the sudden “unfollow spree.”

The development comes just days after Karan Johar celebrated his 54th birthday with a grand gathering at his Mumbai residence attended by several Bollywood celebrities including Kajol, Farah Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Rani Mukerji and Manish Malhotra.

As screenshots and discussions around Karan’s Instagram activity began circulating online, social media users started speculating about possible reasons behind the move. While some fans wondered whether there could be personal fallout or industry tensions, others suggested it might simply be part of a social media clean-up strategy.

Adding another layer to the mystery, several reports claimed that the move may not be personal at all. According to reports cited by Filmfare, Karan Johar’s unfollow activity could be linked to a “social media strategy” rather than any dispute with celebrities.

At the same time, some users also pointed towards recent Meta and Instagram glitches that affected several verified accounts globally. Just days earlier, Salman Khan’s Instagram profile had temporarily disappeared, with thousands of users reporting outages and technical issues across Meta platforms.

As of now, Karan Johar has not issued any official statement or clarification regarding the matter.

Karan Johar remains one of Bollywood’s most influential filmmakers and producers. He began his journey in cinema as an assistant director on Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in 1995 before making his directorial debut with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998 starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji.

Over the years, he has delivered several iconic films including Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, My Name Is Khan, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Under Dharma Productions, he has also backed numerous successful films and launched several new actors into the industry.

While the reason behind the Instagram activity remains unclear, the incident has once again highlighted how closely celebrity social media behaviour is monitored by fans and entertainment followers online.
