A tragic incident occurred on the sets of Jailer 2 in Chennai after a 28-year-old crew member died due to an alleged electric shock while working at a private film studio in Panaiyur.
The deceased has been identified as Karthikeyan, who was associated with the film’s art department. According to preliminary information shared by police, he was engaged in art direction work and helping erect a house-like set for the shoot when the incident took place on Thursday.
Police officials stated that Karthikeyan reportedly suffered a fatal electric shock during the construction work on the set. Authorities suspect an electrical leak may have caused the accident.
The Kanathur police have begun an investigation into the incident. Officials said a First Information Report (FIR) is yet to be registered as inquiries continue to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The makers of the film, including production house Sun Pictures, are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 is the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster starring Rajinikanth. The film has generated significant buzz since production began.
Earlier this year, the production house had announced that the shooting of the sequel had been wrapped up. On April 21, photos from the wrap-up celebrations featuring Rajinikanth, Nelson Dilipkumar and the crew were shared online.
Reports have also suggested that the film’s release date may be shifted. While Rajinikanth had earlier hinted at a June 12, 2026 release, recent industry reports indicate the makers are considering a September 4 release aligned with Krishna Jayanthi celebrations.
The sequel will reportedly feature returning cast members including Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa.
The incident has once again raised concerns about safety measures and working conditions on film sets across the industry.
