Saif Ali Khan has reflected on how fatherhood and growing older have changed his perspective on work, family and the demanding schedules of the film industry while speaking about his upcoming project Kartavya.
The actor said that becoming a father later in life has made him more conscious about balancing professional commitments with personal time. Speaking about the emotional and moral themes explored in Kartavya, Saif explained that the film goes beyond being a conventional crime thriller and delves into questions of duty, conscience and family responsibility.
Saif admitted that acting often comes with sacrifices that affect oneโs personal life. Reflecting on years spent working long schedules, he said actors frequently miss important family occasions, birthdays and celebrations because of shooting commitments.
Using a mountain-climbing analogy, the actor described family as a โbase campโ that gives stability and support. He said if someone spends too much time away chasing professional goals, they risk losing that emotional foundation, while spending too much time away from work means giving up ambition. According to Saif, maintaining that balance becomes more important with age.
The actor also opened up about his discomfort with extended โnine-to-nineโ shooting shifts, saying the reality is even more exhausting because actors often reach home very late after pack-up.
Saif shared that after becoming a father, he started feeling the need to return home earlier and spend more time with his children and family. He added that such demanding schedules no longer feel sustainable to him.
Talking about Kartavya, Saif said the film explores a dark moral dilemma through the story of a police officer trying to protect his family while navigating dangerous situations. He praised filmmaker Pulkit for creating a layered character caught between personal values and professional duty.
According to the actor, the film combines emotional depth with philosophical undertones while still functioning as an engaging thriller.
Saif described the narrative as a โmoral grey areaโ where the protagonist finds himself trapped in a complicated situation with no easy escape. He also said the emotional support and pressure coming from the characterโs family and workplace add further complexity to the story.
Kartavya is scheduled to premiere on Netflix India on May 15.
