Vijay successfully won the trust vote in the Tamil Nadu Assembly with a comfortable majority, further consolidating his position as Chief Minister after his partyโs sweeping electoral victory.
During the crucial floor test, 144 MLAs voted in favour of Vijayโs government, while 22 legislators belonging to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) faction led by Edappadi K Palaniswami voted against the motion.
In a significant political development, 25 MLAs from the faction led by C V Shanmugam extended support to Vijay during the trust vote, helping the government comfortably cross the majority mark.
Meanwhile, four MLAs from the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) and one legislator from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) abstained from voting.
The trust vote comes amid heightened political attention in Tamil Nadu following Vijayโs transition from cinema superstar to political leader through his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
The Assembly proceedings also witnessed lighter moments despite intense political rivalries, including an interaction between Vijay and Udhayanidhi Stalin, who briefly revisited their college friendship during the session.
With the trust vote now secured, Vijayโs government is expected to move ahead with its policy agenda while political observers continue to closely watch the evolving dynamics between TVK, DMK, AIADMK and other regional parties in the state.
