Nora Fatehi appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) in Delhi on Thursday regarding the controversy surrounding the Hindi version of the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from KD: The Devil. During her appearance, the actor apologised and clarified that there was no intention to hurt sentiments.
The controversy erupted after the Hindi dubbed version of the Kannada song faced backlash online over its lyrics and alleged vulgar connotations. The track, which was released on YouTube on March 15, was later taken down following public outrage and intervention by the NCW.
Speaking after appearing before the Commission, Nora said she understood the responsibility that comes with being a public figure and regretted the controversy surrounding the song. She explained that she had originally shot only for the Kannada version and claimed that her consent had not been sought before the track was dubbed into Hindi.
“I did appear before the Commission, and I apologised. It was just a situation that I was put in, and there was no intention to offend anybody, but of course, I have to be responsible as an artist. I definitely apologised, we have done everything in writing,” she said.
As part of what she described as a corrective and meaningful step, Nora also announced that she would sponsor the education of orphaned girls. She said the Commission had been understanding during the proceedings and emphasised the importance of giving back to society.
“They have been so kind and helpful. It’s really important for us to give back to society. So, I decided that we should sponsor a few orphan girls, their education, so that is the goal after this matter,” she added.
Earlier, Sanjay Dutt had also appeared before the Commission in connection with the same controversy. He reportedly pledged to sponsor the education of 50 tribal girls as part of his response to the matter.
Directed by Prem, KD: The Devil stars Dhruv Sarja alongside Sanjay Dutt and others in key roles. The film has remained in headlines amid the ongoing debate surrounding the song’s lyrics and its Hindi adaptation.
