Goa’s Kaavi Artist Sagar Mule Creates History at Rashtrapati Bhavan Residency Program

In a proud moment for Goa’s cultural heritage, renowned Kaavi artist Sagar Naik Mule has created history after being invited to the prestigious Artist in Residency Program at Rashtrapati Bhavan, held from April 14 to April 23.

Sagar, known for promoting Goa’s traditional Kaavi art, represented the state on a national platform and showcased the beauty of this centuries-old art form rooted in Goa’s cultural identity.

During the residency program, President of India Droupadi Murmu appreciated his artwork as well as his traditional attire, making the moment even more special for the artist.

As a token of appreciation and love, Sagar was presented with a gold-plated frame and shawl by the President.

Sharing his emotions after the milestone achievement, Sagar said this recognition is dedicated to his soil and Goa’s cultural traditions.

He described the honour as a historic moment not just for him personally, but for the entire state and the preservation of Kaavi art.

Kaavi art is a traditional decorative mural art form of Goa that has been passed down through generations and is known for its intricate red ochre designs on temple and heritage walls.

Sagar’s recognition at Rashtrapati Bhavan marks a significant step in bringing Goa’s traditional art to national prominence.

His achievement is being celebrated as a proud cultural milestone for Goa and an inspiration for young artists working to preserve traditional Indian art forms.
