PETA India Writes to Vijay Over Use of Painted Birds at TVK Election Campaign Event

Actor-politician Vijay has come under scrutiny after PETA India raised concerns over the use of live birds during a recent Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) election campaign event in Tiruchirappalli.

The controversy erupted after videos from the roadshow surfaced online, showing doves allegedly painted in party colours before being released into the air. The clips quickly went viral on social media, sparking criticism from animal welfare activists and netizens.

In a letter addressed to Vijay, PETA India highlighted that painting and handling birds can cause extreme stress, injuries, and health complications. The organisation stated that such practices may amount to cruelty toward animals.

PETA also noted that the act could potentially violate the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, which protects animals from unnecessary suffering. Additionally, the organisation referred to Election Commission guidelines that discourage the use of animals during political campaigns.

The letter urged Vijay and his political party to refrain from using live animals in future events and ensure proper rehabilitation and care for the birds involved.

The viral incident has triggered mixed reactions online, with many users demanding stricter enforcement of animal welfare rules during political rallies.

As of now, neither Vijay nor Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has issued an official statement regarding the controversy.

The incident has once again sparked conversations about ethical campaigning and animal rights during public events.
