Goa’s veteran cricket fraternity has a moment of pride as three of its players—Sahil Dhuri, Prasad Patil, and Basappa Madar—have been selected to represent the West Zone Veterans team at the upcoming All India Veterans Cricket Tournament. The tournament, organised under the Board for Veteran Cricket in India (BVCI), is scheduled to take place in Hyderabad from May 2 to May 4, 2026, at the Grand Arena under floodlights, hosted by the Veteran Cricket Association of Telangana.
Leading the side will be Sahil Dhuri, a seasoned campaigner from the Goa Veterans Cricket Association and a former Ranji Trophy player. His appointment as captain highlights not only his experience but also the confidence the selectors have in his leadership abilities at a national level.
The West Zone squad is a formidable unit, comprising players from across Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and Mumbai, along with the Goan contingent. The competition will also feature teams from North, Central, East, and South Zones, bringing together several former Ranji Trophy players who have contributed significantly to Indian domestic cricket.
The selection of three Goan players, particularly with Dhuri at the helm, underscores Goa’s consistent contribution to cricket and its growing presence in veteran-level competitions. It reflects the enduring passion and competitive spirit of players who continue to represent their regions with pride even beyond their professional careers.
As the team prepares for the tournament, the spotlight will be on Goa’s representatives to make a strong impact and carry forward the state’s sporting legacy on a national stage.
