In a heartening recognition of youth-led service and community commitment, Pusapati Ashok Gajapathy Raju, Governor of Goa and President of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Goa State, honoured Junior Red Cross (JRC) and Youth Red Cross (YRC) volunteers at a special ceremony held at Lokayukta Bhavan in Panaji on April 15, 2026.
The awards were presented in recognition of the volunteers’ outstanding efforts during the Flag Day collection drive, a key initiative aimed at raising funds for humanitarian activities and welfare programmes across the state.
The ceremony served not only as a platform to celebrate achievements but also as an inspiration for young volunteers to continue their journey of selfless service and active community participation.
Several schools were recognised for their exemplary contribution and fundraising spirit, including St. Michael High School, The Progress High School, Dr. K.B. Hedgewar High School, Sacred Heart High School, Fairyland High School, Madkaikar Higher Secondary School, Vidhya Prabhodini Higher Secondary School, P.V.S. Madhusudan Kushe Higher Secondary School, and Don Bosco Higher Secondary School.
The event witnessed the presence of key members of the IRCS Goa State leadership, including Gaurish Dhond, Chairman of IRCS Goa State; Subhash Kautankar, Chairman of the Bardez Branch; along with managing committee members Salim Isani and Rajesh Salgaonkar. John Aguiar, General Secretary, was also present.
In his welcome address, Gaurish Dhond expressed gratitude to the participating educational institutions for their continued support, emphasising that the funds collected during Flag Day play a crucial role in supporting healthcare services and relief initiatives across Goa.
Earlier, Subhash Kautankar welcomed the gathering, while Smt. Neeta Kautankar compered the function. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dattaram Bicholkar, Secretary of IRCS Bardez.
The ceremony highlighted the power of youth engagement and reaffirmed the importance of collective efforts in building a compassionate and service-driven society.
