MARGAO: MCC Royals made a winning start to their Members League Cricket (MCL) 12 campaign, defeating MCC Stallions by seven wickets in the opening match at the Margao Cricket Club ground.
In the day-night fixture organised by Margao Cricket Club, Royals delivered a disciplined bowling performance to restrict Stallions to 128/9 in 20 overs before completing the chase in 16.4 overs, with 20 balls to spare.
Batting first, MCC Stallions found it difficult to build momentum. Roshan Naik top-scored with 39 off 35 balls, including two sixes, while Nikhil Virginkar contributed 36 off 29 deliveries, hitting five boundaries. Dinraj Pai Khot remained unbeaten on 12.
For MCC Royals, Chirag Naik led the bowling attack with impressive figures of 2/11 in three overs. Captain Aditya Angle and Sumiran Amonkar picked up a wicket each to keep the opposition’s total under control.
In reply, Royals lost Sumiran Amonkar early for four but recovered through useful partnerships. Chaitanya Kamat scored 30 off 32 balls, while Sidhit Raiturkar added 35 off 31 deliveries to steady the innings.
Pranav Biche provided the finishing impetus with an unbeaten 25 off just 13 balls, striking three boundaries and a six. Viraj Tar remained unbeaten on 16 as Royals reached 129/3 in 16.4 overs to seal a seven-wicket victory.
Chirag Naik was adjudged Man of the Match for his bowling performance.
