Godrej Hair Lab Introduces Smart Black: A Patented Glove-Free Hair Colour Priced at ₹229

Mumbai, November 2, 2026: Hair Lab, a Godrej company, has announced the launch of Godrej Hair Lab Smart Black shampoo hair colour, a premium multi-use tube product designed to make at-home hair colouring simpler through a glove-free application process.

The company says Smart Black uses an in-house patented, no-peroxide and no-ammonia formulation powered by auto-oxidative hair colour technology. Enriched with gallic acid and aloe vera, the product promises rich, natural-looking black colour with 100% grey coverage in 15 minutes.

A simplified hair colouring experience

Smart Black is designed for application directly to dry hair, with particular focus on grey areas. Users are instructed to wet their hands with water before applying the product and wash their hands with soap within three minutes of contact.

The product eliminates the need for gloves, brushes and mixing bowls, offering a convenient alternative to conventional at-home hair colouring methods.

Commenting on the launch, Samir Suryawanshi, Business Head, Hair Lab, a Godrej company, said, “Godrej Hair Lab Smart Black shampoo hair colour is completely rewriting the narrative around hair colour. Cracking a no-peroxide formulation required a total reinvention of hair colour chemistry. By eliminating gloves, we are removing a deep-seated psychological barrier and turning a mundane chore into a premium, intuitive self-care ritual. Our breakthrough, patented formulation proves that the ultimate luxury in modern beauty is a seamless fusion of convenience, and advanced hair science.”

Convenience-led innovation in India’s hair colour market

India’s hair colour market is estimated at over ₹7,000 crore, according to the company. The category continues to grow as consumers look for more convenient and comfortable ways to colour their hair at home.

Consumer insights cited by the company indicate that skin staining and post-application clean-up are among the concerns users would like to simplify. Smart Black aims to address these concerns with its glove-free, no-stain application experience.

Suryawanshi said convenience-led premium innovation is expected to be an important growth driver in the hair care market. He described Smart Black as an innovation that combines science with convenience to enhance the at-home colouring experience and attract new consumers to the category.

Price and availability

Godrej Hair Lab Smart Black comes in a multi-use 80ml tube priced at ₹229. It is available through leading e-commerce, lifestyle and quick-commerce beauty platforms, including Blinkit and Amazon.
