Goa captain Aryan Narvekar led a determined recovery with a gritty unbeaten 76 as Goa reached 227 for four in 87 overs on the opening day of their Colonel C.K. Nayudu Trophy Elite Under-23 four-day match against Baroda at the BCA Stadium โBโ Ground on Monday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Goa found themselves under pressure at 59 for three. Narvekar then took charge of the innings, displaying patience and composure to guide his side through a challenging phase and lay the foundation for a competitive total.
The Goa skipper faced 207 deliveries, hitting 10 fours and two sixes. He combined solid defence with timely stroke play, capitalising on loose deliveries while respecting the good ones.
Narvekar received valuable support from Dishank Misquin, who contributed 45 runs off 168 balls, including four fours and two sixes. The pair stitched together a crucial 112-run partnership for the fifth wicket, helping Goa recover from their early setbacks and regain control of the innings.
Wicketkeeper Chittem Jeevankumar remained unbeaten on 45 at stumps, striking seven fours. His partnership with Narvekar ensured Goa finished the day in a stronger position, giving the visitors a solid platform to build on when play resumes on Tuesday.
For Baroda, Henil Patel was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets for 43 runs, while Harshit Maurya picked up one wicket for 29 runs.
Goa will look to extend their total on the second day, with Narvekar and Jeevankumar at the crease and the team well placed to convert its recovery into a substantial first-innings score.
