Chandigarh: Punjab Junior Women secured a hard-fought five-wicket victory over Goa Women in a closely contested league encounter of the 7th Rama Atray Women’s T20 Cricket Tournament 2026 at the DAV 8 Ground in Chandigarh.
After winning the toss, Goa Women elected to bat but endured an early setback, losing three wickets for just 19 runs inside the first four overs.
Alisha Mehta, who finished with figures of 2/25, and Shivani, who returned 1/13, struck early to put Goa under pressure.
Wicketkeeper-batter Vinavi Gurav then steadied the innings with a valuable 29 off 24 balls, while Divya Naik contributed a patient 26 from 39 deliveries.
Goa received an important late boost from Tanaya Naik, who remained unbeaten on a brisk 31 off just 21 balls. Her late-innings acceleration helped Goa Women reach 118/5 in their allotted 20 overs.
Khushnawal Kaur Anchors Successful Chase
Punjab Junior Women’s chase got off to a shaky start when Manya Sharma was dismissed for 5.
However, captain Khushnawal Kaur took charge of the innings and produced a match-winning half-century. Kaur scored 50 off 43 deliveries, striking eight boundaries, to provide the foundation for Punjab’s successful chase.
She received valuable support from Akanksha Saini, who scored 20 off 17 balls, and Manreet Aulakh, who contributed 19.
Goa skipper Shreya Subhash Parab kept her side in the contest with figures of 2/28 from four overs, while Harshita Yadav claimed 1/15.
Punjab Junior Women eventually reached 119/5 in 19.1 overs, completing the chase with five wickets in hand.
Despite Goa Women’s late fightback and a competitive total, Punjab’s steady batting approach and Kaur’s composed half-century proved decisive.
