Bengaluru: Goa made a steady start to their four-day Dr. (Capt.) K. Thimmappiah Memorial Cricket Tournament match against KSCA President’s XI, reaching 281 for seven in 90 overs at the end of the opening day at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday.
After winning the toss, Goa opted to bat first and were anchored by a fine century from wicketkeeper-batter Shivendra Bhujbhal, who scored 106 off 212 deliveries.
Bhujbhal’s patient innings featured 11 boundaries and one six, providing Goa with a crucial foundation on a challenging opening day.
He was well supported by left-handed opener Manthan Khutkar, who narrowly missed out on a century after scoring an impressive 92 off 182 balls. Khutkar struck 11 fours and a six during his stay at the crease.
The pair put together a substantial 137-run partnership for the second wicket, helping Goa recover and build a strong platform after the early stages of the innings.
Khutkar’s dismissal just eight runs short of a century was followed by Bhujbhal carrying on to reach three figures, giving Goa an important middle-order foundation.
Goa’s innings, however, lost wickets at regular intervals later in the day. Snehal Kauthankar contributed 25, while Lalit Yadav scored 19. Darshan Misal and Rutvik Naik made seven and three respectively.
At stumps, Yash Kasvankar remained unbeaten on four, while Amulya Pandrekar was yet to score.
For KSCA President’s XI, Mohsin Khan was the most successful bowler, finishing the day with figures of 2/46. Venkatesh M., Shikhar Shetty, Akshat Prabhakar and Shubhang Hegde picked up one wicket each.
Goa will look to build on their solid first-day total when play resumes, with Kasvankar and Pandrekar at the crease.
