Aldona, September 1, 2026: St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Aldona, has added another achievement to its sporting record after being crowned Under-19 Football Zone I Champions in the tournament organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Panaji.
The closely contested final was played at Quitula Ground on September 1, with St. Thomas HSS Aldona taking on St. Francis Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Siolim.
Both teams displayed determination, skill and fighting spirit throughout the encounter. The match ended 1-1 at the end of regular time, forcing the championship to be decided through a tie-breaker.
St. Thomas HSS Aldona held its nerve when it mattered most, securing a 4-2 victory on tie-breakers to claim the Zone I title.
The triumph was celebrated by the school management, staff, students and supporters, with Principal Angelica Fernandes expressing immense pride in the team’s performance.
“This victory is a proud moment for the entire St. Thomas HSS family,” she said, while praising the players for their discipline, commitment and team spirit.
School Manager Fr. Roxy Fernandes also congratulated the team and highlighted the values behind the achievement.
“Our students have demonstrated that success is achieved through dedication, discipline, teamwork and the courage to perform under pressure,” he said. “I congratulate every member of the team for this well-deserved triumph and for bringing glory to our institution. Their achievement will certainly inspire many more students to pursue sports with passion and confidence.”
The school also acknowledged the contribution of Physical Education Teacher Shri R. J. Vijaykumar and Coach Somshekar K., whose consistent training, guidance and motivation played an important role in preparing the team for the competition.
The School Management, Principal, staff and students extended their congratulations to the entire squad and wished the players success in the forthcoming rounds.
The Zone I championship adds another chapter to the sporting achievements of St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Aldona, while reinforcing the institution’s focus on holistic education through academics, sports, discipline, leadership and teamwork.
