Milroc Colina Residents Celebrate Independence Day with Gardening Workshop and Cultural Programme

Pilar, Goa: Residents of Milroc Colina, Pilar, celebrated India’s Independence Day on August 15, 2026, with a unique community programme combining environmental awareness, children’s activities and patriotic performances.

A special home gardening workshop was conducted for children by 8-year-old entrepreneur and award-winning influencer Gargi of Giggle Gardeners, Ponda. The workshop introduced children to the joy and importance of growing plants at home and caring for them.

As part of the initiative, every participating child was given a plant of their choice to take home and nurture, encouraging them to develop a lasting connection with nature and understand the importance of responsible environmental practices.

The celebrations also featured a lively cultural programme, with children from the complex presenting patriotic songs and dance performances. Their enthusiastic participation added colour and spirit to the Independence Day celebrations.

Participation certificates were presented to the children in recognition of their involvement in the programme.

The event was coordinated and compered by Melania D’Mello and conceptualised by Avelino de Sa. Ivo Morais, Chairman of Milroc Colina Society, addressed the gathering and presented the certificates to the participating children.

The celebrations highlighted how community events can go beyond traditional festivities by combining patriotism with environmental awareness, creativity and opportunities for children to learn, participate and grow.
