Thiruvananthapuram, August 19, 2026: The Adani-operated Vizhinjam International Seaport has commenced full Export-Import (EXIM) operations, marking a significant milestone in the development of India’s maritime and logistics infrastructure.
The transition formally moves Vizhinjam beyond its role as a major transhipment hub and positions the Kerala-based port as a full-fledged commercial gateway for handling export and import cargo.
Located strategically along the international East-West shipping route, Vizhinjam has emerged as one of India’s key deep-water port projects. Its location offers access to major global shipping routes, potentially reducing the need for Indian-bound cargo to rely on foreign transhipment hubs.
The commencement of EXIM operations is expected to strengthen India’s direct connectivity with international markets and support the movement of goods through a modern port infrastructure.
The development is also significant for Kerala, with the port expected to contribute to the state’s logistics, trade, industrial and employment ecosystem. Greater cargo connectivity could create opportunities for businesses involved in shipping, warehousing, transportation and related services.
