Panjim, August 8, 2026: The Women’s Wing of the Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI), in association with the Goa State Rural Livelihood Mission (GSRLM), successfully organised a three-day Kasuti Embroidery Workshop from August 6 to 8, 2026, at the GCCI Surendrababu Timblo Convention Hall, Panjim.
The workshop aimed to promote the rich heritage of Kasuti embroidery, a traditional hand embroidery art form from Karnataka, while creating opportunities for women to acquire new skills and explore avenues for livelihood generation and entrepreneurship.
Hands-on Training in Traditional Embroidery
Over the three days, participants received expert guidance and practical training in Kasuti embroidery. The sessions introduced participants to traditional patterns and techniques while encouraging them to create their own handcrafted embroidery pieces.
The faculty included Savitri Baddi, Proprietor, Asha Kasturi Designer; Sudha S. Walveker; and Kavita S. Pawar, all associated with Asha Kasturi Designer.
The first two days, August 6 and 7, featured full-day training sessions, while the concluding session was held on August 8.
Encouraging Women to Explore Livelihood Opportunities
The workshop focused not only on preserving a traditional art form but also on using skill development as a pathway towards economic empowerment.
During the concluding session, Sandra Fernandes, Chairperson, GCCI Women’s Wing, congratulated the participants for their enthusiasm and keen interest in learning Kasuti embroidery.
Fernandes also thanked Simran Dhond, Member, GCCI Women’s Wing, for suggesting the initiative and appreciated the successful conduct of the programme.
Deepali Naik, Director, Rural Development, thanked the participants for their enthusiastic involvement and encouraged them to continue practising Kasuti embroidery and explore ways of developing their skills into potential livelihood opportunities.
Certificates Presented to Participants
Certificates were distributed to all participants upon completion of the workshop, recognising their participation in the three-day training programme.
Gouri Joshi, Vice Chairperson, GCCI Women’s Wing, proposed the vote of thanks, bringing the workshop to a close.
The programme was compered by Simran Dhond, Member, Women’s Wing Committee, while Melane D. Rodrigues, Assistant Director, GCCI, coordinated the event.
Swatee Rane, Member, GCCI Women’s Wing Committee, was also present.
The workshop highlighted how traditional crafts such as Kasuti embroidery can serve as both a means of preserving cultural heritage and a platform for women to develop skills, build livelihoods and explore entrepreneurial opportunities.
