Mumbai: Police have solved the burglary case at the Santacruz residence of model and actor Lopamudra Raut, known for her appearance on Bigg Boss 10. The main accused has been arrested and stolen property worth approximately ₹76 lakh has been recovered.
The Santacruz Police, working jointly with the local Crime Branch, arrested 26-year-old Chandan Kamlesh Mukhiya, a native of Bihar, in connection with the burglary.
According to police, the recovered property includes cash, gold jewellery and gold biscuits.
Burglary Took Place While Raut Was Away
The burglary reportedly occurred at Raut’s Santacruz apartment while she was away from Mumbai between June 20 and July 27.
After returning home, Raut discovered that her residence had been broken into and subsequently approached the police, following which a case was registered.
A joint investigation team comprising officials from the Santacruz Police Station and Crime Branch was formed to identify the person responsible for the break-in.
CCTV Footage Helps Police Trace Accused
Investigators examined CCTV footage from the areas surrounding Raut’s residence. The footage reportedly helped the police identify Mukhiya and trace his movements to his native place in Bihar.
Following his arrest, police questioned the accused about the burglary and the stolen property.
According to police sources, Mukhiya allegedly targeted the apartment after noticing that it was locked while Raut was away from the city.
Investigators also reportedly learnt that the accused had planned to use the stolen money to purchase land in his sister’s name.
Mukhiya is currently in police custody as the investigation continues. Authorities are also working to recover any remaining stolen property.
