‘A Voyage to Permanence’: Museum of Goa to Host Three-Day Exhibition Exploring Cinema, Migration and Human Experience

Panaji, Goa: The Museum of Goa (MOG) is set to host A Voyage to Permanence, a three-day exhibition celebrating the visual language and experimental cinema of independent filmmaker Purandar Chaudhuri from August 12 to 14, 2026.

Bringing together experimental cinema, photography, sound and visual essays, the exhibition aims to take audiences beyond traditional film viewing and transform moving images into spaces of reflection, contemplation and visual poetry.

Conceptualised by Bengaluru-based curator Jooby Yohannan and curated by renowned art critic and curator Johny ML, with exhibition visuals designed by Prakash Braggs, the showcase will revolve around three of Chaudhuri’s significant experimental films — Impressions of Mingling, Tremors and Dhushor.

Together, these works explore complex themes of migration, labour, displacement, impermanence and the human condition, creating an immersive environment where abstract imagery meets lived experiences.

Unlike conventional documentary storytelling, Chaudhuri’s cinematic approach uses monochromatic visuals, minimal dialogue and a delicate balance between still and moving images to explore deeper emotional and philosophical questions.

His films reflect on displacement, collective memory and the fragile relationship between the past and present, inviting viewers to experience cinema as a meditative form rather than only a narrative medium.

Three-Day Exhibition Programme

The exhibition will unfold through a specially curated programme:

August 12:
Visitors can experience a continuous screening of Impressions of Mingling along with an exhibition of photographic works and alternative prints.

August 13:
A continuous screening of Tremors will be presented within the exhibition space.

August 14:
The Museum auditorium will host a special screening of Dhushor, followed by an interaction with members of the creative team.

The exhibition will also feature the launch of the Goa Cyanotype Notebook, celebrating alternative photographic practices and traditional image-making techniques.

A special conversation accompanying the photobook launch will feature journalist and writer Jayanth Kodkani and visual artist, curator and INTACH Mangalore founding member Nemiraj Shetty, who will discuss cinema, photography and visual storytelling.

Speaking about the exhibition, Purandar Chaudhuri said, “A Voyage to Permanence seeks to expand the experience of cinema beyond narrative into an encounter with image and time itself.”

He added that the exhibition encourages audiences to slow down, embrace silence and discover the poetic possibilities that emerge between stillness and motion.

The exhibition brings together filmmaking, photography, curatorial practice, design and publishing through a collaborative effort involving Purandar Chaudhuri, Johny ML, Prakash Braggs, Jayanth Kodkani, Nemiraj Shetty and Jooby Yohannan.

A Voyage to Permanence will be open to the public at the Museum of Goa, Pilerne, from August 12 to 14, 2026.
