Panaji, Goa: City Corporation of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate has shared a deeply emotional tribute to his late mother, Jennifer Monserrate, remembering her not only as a respected public leader but also as the unwavering pillar of strength in his life.
In a heartfelt message, Rohit reflected on the profound impact his mother had on both his personal journey and public life.
“There are some losses that change you forever,” he wrote, describing Jennifer Monserrate as his “safe place,” his “greatest source of strength,” and the one person whose love he never had to question.
Remembering her public life, Rohit acknowledged that many knew Jennifer Monserrate as a leader who dedicated herself to serving society with compassion, conviction, and unwavering commitment. However, to him, she was simply “Mum”—the person who stood beside him through every stage of his life.
He recalled how she celebrated his happiest moments, supported him through his most difficult times, and believed in him even when he doubted himself.
Rohit expressed that no words could truly capture the depth of his grief or the gratitude he feels for having her as his mother. He said the values she instilled in him, her courage in the face of challenges, and her kindness towards everyone she met would continue to guide him throughout his life.
“A part of my heart went with you, Mum. But your love, your courage, and your legacy will continue to guide me every day,” he wrote, adding that he hopes to honour her memory by living according to the principles she taught him.
He concluded his tribute with a touching prayer, asking God to hold her close, just as she had always held her family close.
Rohit also expressed sincere gratitude to everyone who supported the Monserrate family during this difficult period. He thanked all those who offered prayers, messages, visits, and words of comfort, saying that the overwhelming love and compassion from the community had given the family strength in their darkest moments.
He noted that every gesture of kindness reminded the family that they were not grieving alone and said they would remain forever grateful for the support they received.
