Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ Crosses ₹20 Crore in Advance Bookings Ahead of Grand Release

Mumbai: Anticipation for Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, continues to soar as the political action drama has crossed ₹20 crore in domestic advance bookings, including blocked seats, just a day before its theatrical release.

According to industry reports, the film has sold more than 7 lakh tickets across India in three languages. Excluding blocked seats, advance bookings have already crossed ₹14 crore, with the Tamil version contributing the overwhelming majority of sales.

Despite facing multiple challenges—including a seven-month release delay, certification hurdles, and an HD leak months before its release—the film has maintained impressive momentum at the box office.

Tamil Nadu Leads the Advance Sales

Tamil Nadu has emerged as the biggest contributor to the film’s pre-release business, accounting for ₹7.90 crore in advance bookings.

Karnataka follows closely with ₹6.03 crore, driven primarily by Bengaluru, while Kerala has contributed ₹1.91 crore, reflecting Vijay’s enduring popularity across South India.

Among individual cities:

  • Bengaluru leads with ₹5.99 crore
  • Chennai follows with ₹1.86 crore
  • Coimbatore has contributed nearly ₹90 lakh
  • Hyderabad, Madurai, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram have also reported encouraging advance sales.

Tamil Version Dominates

The Tamil version accounts for more than ₹14 crore in advance ticket sales, while the Telugu release has registered comparatively modest numbers. The Hindi version has witnessed limited traction so far.

Most bookings have come from standard 2D screenings, with premium formats contributing only a small share.

Trailing ‘Leo’ and ‘GOAT’

Although the advance sales are impressive, Jana Nayagan currently trails Vijay’s previous blockbusters.

  • Leo had registered ₹46.36 crore in Day 1 advance bookings (excluding blocked seats).
  • The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) collected ₹29.83 crore in domestic advance bookings before opening to ₹126.32 crore worldwide.

Trade analysts, however, remain optimistic that last-minute bookings could significantly boost the opening-day numbers.

Vijay’s Final Film

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Narain, and Nassar in pivotal roles.

Originally slated for release on January 9, the film was postponed by over seven months due to certification issues and legal hurdles before locking July 23 as its release date.

With Vijay bidding farewell to cinema after a remarkable 33-year career to focus on public service as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, expectations are sky-high for what promises to be one of the biggest releases of the year.
