Cuncolim, Goa: Reinforcing its commitment to nurturing young football talent, the Goa Football Development Council (GFDC), in collaboration with the Youth of Cuncolim Sports Club, organised a football kit distribution ceremony at the Village Playground in Cuncolim.
The event witnessed the presence of GFDC Member Secretary Fransquinha Oliveira, social worker Adv. Raisa Alemao, Physical Education Teacher of R. M. Salgaocar Higher Secondary School Girijadevi Narayan Desai, Coach Educator and Football Development Consultant Sham Mahadev Gauli, and Manju Shirvant, President of the Youth of Cuncolim Sports Club and Centre Head of Cuncolim GFDC.
Addressing the gathering, Fransquinha Oliveira congratulated the Youth of Cuncolim Sports Club for partnering with GFDC to encourage young football enthusiasts.
“Football is not just a game in Goa—it is a way of life. Every child receiving a football jersey today is also receiving an opportunity to dream, learn and grow. These kits symbolise discipline, teamwork, commitment and confidence,” she said.
She reiterated GFDC’s mission of identifying and nurturing football talent across every corner of Goa, ensuring every child has access to quality coaching and opportunities to excel irrespective of their background.
Oliveira encouraged the young players to wear their jerseys with pride, train consistently, respect their coaches, support teammates and always uphold the spirit of sportsmanship. She also acknowledged parents for motivating their children to participate in sports and thanked the Youth of Cuncolim Sports Club for its continued dedication to grassroots football.
Football Development Consultant Sham Mahadev Gauli urged the youngsters to dream big and work hard towards achieving their goals.
“Practice regularly, attend training every day, respect your coaches and parents, and wear this jersey with pride. Your dedication today will shape your future,” he told the budding footballers.
Speaking to parents, Gauli highlighted the importance of their continued support in helping children pursue sports while appreciating the efforts of coaches who dedicate their time to nurturing talent.
Physical Education Teacher Girijadevi Narayan Desai reminded the players that opportunities available today were far greater than in previous generations.
“You are fortunate to have organisations like GFDC supporting your journey. Stay disciplined, work hard, and strive to bring laurels to Goa and the nation,” she said.
The football kit distribution programme reflected GFDC’s ongoing commitment to strengthening grassroots football in Goa by creating opportunities, encouraging participation and inspiring the next generation of footballers to pursue excellence on and off the field.
