Mumbai: Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced that its iconic hospitality brand Taj has once again been recognised as India’s Strongest Brand 2026 across all sectors in the Brand Finance India 100 2026 Report, marking an impressive fifth consecutive year at the top.
According to Brand Finance, Taj achieved a Brand Strength Index (BSI) score of 93.5 out of 100, earning the prestigious AAA+ brand strength rating. The report also noted a 32 per cent increase in Taj’s brand value, which now stands at USD 878 million.
Expressing his delight over the achievement, Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of IHCL, said the recognition reflects more than a century of unwavering commitment to Indian hospitality.
“Being recognised as India’s Strongest Brand across sectors for the fifth consecutive year is a matter of immense pride. For over 120 years, Taj has remained an enduring symbol of Indian hospitality, staying rooted in its timeless values of warmth, authenticity and excellence,” he said.
Founded by Jamsetji Tata in 1903 with the opening of the iconic Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, the Taj brand has played a pioneering role in shaping India’s hospitality and tourism landscape. Today, Taj operates a portfolio of 150 hotels across 15 countries, offering luxury palaces, landmark city hotels, wildlife safaris, beach resorts, hill retreats and premium service residences.
The company stated that Taj’s growth strategy is guided by Paathya, IHCL’s ESG+ framework, which focuses on sustainable development, environmental responsibility, cultural preservation and community empowerment.
Commenting on the recognition, David Haigh, Chairman of Brand Finance, said Taj’s consistent performance is a reflection of its exceptional reputation and customer loyalty.
“Brand Finance’s research shows exceptionally high levels of familiarity, preference and understanding in its home market, underscoring the value of investing in a distinctive brand experience and maintaining the highest standards of hospitality,” Haigh said.
Beyond Taj, IHCL manages a diverse portfolio of hospitality brands including Claridges Collection, SeleQtions, Gateway, Vivanta, Ginger, Tree of Life, Brij and Atmantan.
Currently, IHCL has a portfolio of 645 hotels, including 263 hotels under development, spread across 15 countries, four continents and more than 300 destinations, making it India’s largest hospitality company by market capitalisation.
The latest recognition further reinforces Taj’s position as one of the world’s most respected hospitality brands while highlighting its continued commitment to delivering world-class experiences rooted in Indian warmth and tradition.
