Panaji, Goa: As the Dempo Goa Challengers continue their quest for a record third Butterfly Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) title, co-owner Shrinivas Dempo has reiterated the franchise’s commitment to promoting table tennis in Goa and inspiring the next generation of players.

The Dempo Goa Challengers, jointly owned by the Dempo Group and Vivek Bhargava, remain the most successful franchise in Butterfly UTT history with two championship titles and are now aiming to create history by lifting a third trophy on home soil.
Speaking about the team’s association with the league, Shrinivas Dempo said Goa’s widespread love for table tennis made it essential for the state to have representation in one of India’s premier franchise-based sporting competitions.
He noted that table tennis has long been one of Goa’s most popular sports, with schools and colleges across the state encouraging students to play the game. According to Dempo, this deep-rooted sporting culture inspired the Dempo Group to become part of Butterfly UTT.
“Table tennis is played in almost every school and college in Goa. Many youngsters develop a passion for the sport from an early age. When the opportunity came to become part of the league, we felt Goa deserved representation in what is often described as the IPL of table tennis,” Dempo said.
Looking ahead to the remainder of the tournament, Dempo stressed that teamwork, unity and confidence have always been the defining strengths of the Goa Challengers.
He said every team in the competition is capable of winning, making it essential for players to stay focused, work together and maintain high morale throughout the season.
Beyond the team’s title ambitions, Dempo expressed hope that hosting Butterfly UTT in Goa would significantly boost interest in the sport and encourage more young athletes to pursue table tennis competitively.
He also appreciated the support extended by the Government of Goa and praised the organisers for bringing the league to the state, expressing hope that Goa would continue to host future editions of Butterfly UTT.
As Butterfly UTT continues to showcase world-class talent in Goa, the Dempo Goa Challengers remain determined to make history by becoming the first franchise to win three league titles while further strengthening the state’s growing reputation as a destination for elite sporting events.
