Panaji: Senior Indian writer Pundalik Naik has been selected for the prestigious Madhav Manjunath Shanbhag Lifetime Achievement Award, instituted by the Akhil Bharatiya Konkani Parishad (AIKP) in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Konkani literature.
The award, named after AIKP founder Madhav Manjunath Shanbhag, will be presented during the organisation’s 88th Foundation Day celebrations on July 12, 2026, in Sagar, Shivamogga district, Karnataka.
The Lifetime Achievement Award has previously been conferred upon eminent personalities including Uday Bhembre, Suresh Borkar, and Rocky Miranda. This year’s recipient was selected by a distinguished jury comprising Gokuldas Prabhu, Prof. Kiran Budkule, and Melwyn Rodrigues.
The Foundation Day celebrations will be graced by Central Sahitya Akademi Award winner Sharat Chandra Shenoy as the Chief Guest, while noted Mangaluru-based poet Titus Noronha will attend as the Guest of Honour.
To facilitate participation from Goa, AIKP has arranged special buses for delegates travelling to the event. Following a social media appeal, nearly 70 participants registered by contributing ₹2,000 towards travel expenses. The organisation has also made arrangements for accommodation and meals for all delegates.
For nearly nine decades, the Akhil Bharatiya Konkani Parishad has worked tirelessly to unite Konkani-speaking communities across India by organising cultural, literary and social initiatives in regions with significant Konkani-speaking populations.
This year’s event is being organised with the support of the Catholic Konkani Samaj, GSB Samaj, Daivagya Brahmin Samaj, and Chorodi Konkani Achar Samaj of Sagar.
More than 500 delegates from across the country are expected to participate in the celebrations, according to Sneha Sabnis, Secretary of AIKP.
The honour bestowed upon Pundalik Naik is a fitting recognition of his lifelong contribution to Konkani literature and serves as another proud moment for Goa’s rich literary heritage.
