GCCI Representative Raises Key Goa Railway Infrastructure Issues At 40th DRUCC Meeting In Hubballi

The 40th Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) meeting of the South Western Railway was held on May 27, 2026, at the Office of the Chief Workshop Manager on Gadag Road, Hubballi, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss major railway infrastructure and freight transportation developments.

Representing the Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI), Mr. Chandrakant Gawas attended the meeting and raised several important issues concerning railway development projects impacting Goa and neighbouring Karnataka.

One of the primary topics discussed during the meeting was the ongoing upgradation of Vasco Railway Station. Mr. Gawas sought detailed updates regarding the commencement of the project, the expected timeline for completion, expenditure incurred so far and the total estimated cost of the redevelopment initiative.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of the New Vaddem–Shantinagar Connecting Bridge project, which is considered an important infrastructure link for improving connectivity in the region.

Another major area of discussion was the enhancement of freight transportation between Goa and Karnataka. Committee members deliberated on the availability of railway wagons and explored possibilities of increasing wagon allocation to facilitate smoother and larger cargo movement in both directions.

The DRUCC meeting further examined the progress of railway line upgradation and doubling work up to Vasco, along with the status of electrification projects being undertaken under the Hubballi Railway Division.

Strategies aimed at increasing the revenue of the Hubballi Division were also discussed extensively. Officials and committee members explored ways to attract a greater number of freight racks carrying different types of cargo to improve operational efficiency and railway revenue generation.

The deliberations were described as productive and insightful, offering a comprehensive overview of ongoing and proposed railway development initiatives in the region.

The press note was issued by Sanjay Amonkar, Director General, with a request for media publicity regarding the discussions and developments highlighted during the meeting.
