Too Long, Too Complex, Too Tiring: What Went Wrong With MTV Splitsvilla X6?

As MTV Splitsvilla X6 inches closer to its grand finale, the season has sparked intense conversations among fans online. What initially appeared to be a bold and refreshing reinvention of the popular dating reality show slowly transformed into one of the franchise’s most exhausting and overcomplicated seasons.

The “Pyaar Ya Paisa” concept promised drama, emotional conflict and strategic gameplay. Contestants were divided between two villas — one representing love and the other money — while the newly introduced Splitscoins system determined several crucial decisions inside the game. On paper, the format sounded fresh and exciting.

The season started on a strong note with a massive lineup of contestants, nostalgic returnees and energetic new faces. Pairs like Gullu-Kaira and Sorab Bedi-Niharika Tiwari quickly became fan favourites, while surprise wildcards added excitement and unpredictability. For the first few weeks, viewers remained hooked on the chaos, chemistry and betrayals.

However, as the season stretched beyond 50 episodes, audiences began expressing fatigue. Episodes became increasingly lengthy, several tasks felt repetitive, and the constant villa switches started appearing forced rather than entertaining. Social media users on platforms like Reddit and X criticised the show for becoming more strategy-focused than relationship-driven.

Many viewers even nicknamed the season “Paisavilla,” arguing that the heavy focus on currency and gameplay removed the emotional core that made Splitsvilla entertaining for years. The elimination twists involving Splitscoins often felt more mechanical than emotional, reducing several dramatic moments to calculations rather than genuine heartbreak.

Another major issue emerged when the real drama started unfolding outside the show instead of within the villa. Contestants became highly active on Instagram Lives, interviews and social media, openly discussing behind-the-scenes conflicts, exposing alleged secrets and throwing shade at fellow participants.

As a result, many fans began finding off-screen controversies more engaging than the actual episodes. Several relationships shown on television started feeling performative once cracks became visible online. The disconnect between the edited reality show narrative and contestants’ public behaviour affected the authenticity viewers usually associate with the franchise.

The controversies further escalated after reports emerged about contestants clashing with the makers. Diksha Pawar reportedly faced legal trouble after allegedly leaking details connected to the show, adding another layer of off-screen chaos to an already overloaded season.

Despite the criticism, the season was not entirely without highlights. Contestants like Akanksha Choudhary, Himanshu Arora and Niharika Tiwari built strong fanbases and generated discussion online. Certain betrayal arcs briefly revived audience interest, while the production scale and visual presentation remained polished.

Hosts Sunny Leone and Karan Kundrra continued to bring star power and familiarity to the franchise. Guest appearances by Uorfi Javed and Nia Sharma also added glamour and entertainment value.

Still, many fans believe the season ultimately suffered from trying to reinvent too many elements at once. Instead of delivering a breezy and addictive dating reality show, Splitsvilla X6 often felt emotionally distant and unnecessarily stretched.

As the finale approaches, audiences are now hoping that future seasons return to the original essence of the franchise — simpler storytelling, genuine connections, messy romance and entertaining chaos that doesn’t overstay its welcome.
