Mandovi Bridge and the old Mandovi bridge will witness temporary night closures on May 14 and 15 as repair and maintenance work is carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD).
The Executive Engineer of Division-VII (NH), PWD Panaji, announced that the closures are necessary to undertake repairs on the bridges’ expansion joints and bearings as part of routine infrastructure maintenance aimed at ensuring commuter safety and long-term structural reliability.
According to the traffic management plan, heavy vehicles will be diverted through Atal Setu during the scheduled closure period. Light vehicles, meanwhile, will be directed through the alternate Mandovi bridge route to maintain the flow of traffic between Panaji and Porvorim.
Authorities have urged motorists and daily commuters to cooperate with traffic personnel and strictly follow the diversion routes and instructions issued during the maintenance period to avoid congestion and inconvenience.
The repair work forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen critical road infrastructure in Goa and ensure safer commuting conditions for the thousands of vehicles that use the Mandovi crossing daily.
Officials have also appealed to the public to plan their travel in advance and allow additional travel time during the diversion period, especially during late evening and night hours when the maintenance activities are expected to take place.
The Mandovi bridges serve as one of the most important transport links connecting Panaji with North Goa, making the maintenance work crucial for long-term operational safety and smooth traffic movement.
