Milagris Cathedral, Sawantwadi to Celebrate Grand Inauguration and Solemn Blessing on May 9

A historic and spiritually significant occasion awaits the faithful as the newly reconstructed Milagris Cathedral in Sawantwadi will be solemnly inaugurated and blessed on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 9 am.

The grand celebration will bring together clergy, devotees and members of the community in a moment of thanksgiving and joy as the cathedral opens its doors after reconstruction. The solemn inauguration will be conducted by His Eminence Oswald Cardinal Gracias, Archbishop Emeritus of Bombay.

The Holy Eucharistic Celebration will be presided over by His Eminence Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão, Archbishop of Goa and Daman, in the auspicious presence of Most Rev. Agnelo Pinheiro, Bishop-Elect of Sindhudurg.

Rooted in faith and gratitude, the occasion reflects the enduring spiritual heritage of the region and marks a new chapter for the Catholic community of Sawantwadi. Inspired by the biblical verse from Genesis 28:17 — “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the House of God.” — the celebration symbolizes renewal, devotion and communal unity.

The organisers have extended a warm invitation to all faithful and well-wishers to participate in the solemn blessing and Eucharistic celebration, making the event a landmark gathering for the region’s Christian community.

The inauguration of the cathedral is expected to witness large participation from Goa, Sindhudurg and neighbouring regions, celebrating not only the reconstruction of a sacred structure but also the strengthening of faith and fellowship.

RSVP for the event has been coordinated by Fr. Richard Saldanha.
