Siya Eknath Naik wins silver at Asmita Khelo India Women’s Weightlifting League

Goa’s rising weightlifting talent Siya Eknath Naik secured a silver medal in the 69kg category at the state-level Asmita Khelo India Women’s Weightlifting League held on May 2 at Silver Jubilee Hall, Taleigao.

Her achievement highlights the growing presence of Goan athletes in competitive weightlifting, particularly in women’s categories under national initiatives like the Khelo India programme, which aims to promote grassroots sports across the country.

Siya trains at the Sports Authority of Goa centre in Mapusa, under the guidance of NSNIS-certified coach Mahesh Prashant Kavlekar. Her performance reflects consistent training, discipline and technical excellence developed under professional coaching.

The Asmita League has emerged as an important platform for women athletes to showcase their strength and skill, while also encouraging greater participation in sports traditionally underrepresented by women.

Siya’s silver medal finish not only adds to her growing list of achievements but also brings pride to Goa’s sporting community, inspiring more young athletes to pursue weightlifting at competitive levels.
