Actor-turned-politician Vijay appears to be on the brink of a historic political breakthrough as early trends in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026 show his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, leading in over 100 seats.
Reacting to the developments, veteran filmmaker and Vijay’s father, S. A. Chandrasekhar, expressed immense pride and confidence in his son’s journey. Speaking to ANI, he said Vijay had always believed he could become Chief Minister and had shown unwavering confidence over the past two years.
“I am very proud and happy,” Chandrasekhar said, adding that Vijay never had even “1 per cent doubt” about his political ambitions. He also highlighted the bold decision to contest without alliances, calling it admirable and beneficial for Tamil Nadu’s future.
The early leads have triggered celebrations among supporters outside Vijay’s residence, with security tightened as crowds gathered to mark what could become a landmark political debut. Chandrasekhar also shared that Vijay’s mother was overwhelmed with joy, describing her as his “first fan.”
The rise of TVK has disrupted a political landscape long dominated by major parties like Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Just two years after its formation, the party’s performance is being viewed as a potential turning point in Tamil Nadu politics.
Observers have already begun drawing comparisons between Vijay and legendary actor-politicians like M. G. Ramachandran and N. T. Rama Rao, both of whom successfully transitioned from cinema to political leadership.
Adding to the buzz, actor Trisha Krishnan was seen arriving at Vijay’s residence as celebrations intensified, reflecting the strong backing he continues to receive from the film fraternity.
With counting still underway, all eyes remain on whether Vijay can convert this strong lead into a decisive mandate and formally step into the role he has long envisioned.
