A nine-day summer football camp aimed at nurturing young talent and promoting grassroots sports development has commenced in Moira. The initiative, organised by Kick Off Football Schools in collaboration with PACT Foundation and supported by A.A. de Moira Club, kicked off on May 1 and will continue until May 10.
The camp, which is fully sponsored by PACT Foundation, is being offered free of cost to children from the Aldona constituency. Designed as an intensive sports education programme, the initiative focuses not just on football training but also on personal growth, discipline and teamwork.
The inaugural event was attended by several key figures, including Anisha Fernandes, Benefactor of PACT Foundation, Oscar Lobo, President of A.A. de Moira Club, Marc Cordeiro, Shriya Shetgaunkar, dietician at Manipal Hospital Goa, Andrea Fernandes, Founder of Kick Off Football Schools, and Jonas Fernandes, Head Coach.
Addressing the young participants, Anisha Fernandes emphasised the cultural significance of football in Goa and the importance of making opportunities accessible to all. She highlighted that the initiative is rooted in the belief that every child deserves a fair chance, regardless of background. According to her, the camp aims to ensure that talent is not limited by circumstance and that children are given the platform to pursue their passion.
She also encouraged participants to view the camp as more than just a sporting activity. While learning technical skills such as passing, defending and scoring, children are also expected to develop discipline, resilience and teamworkโqualities that extend beyond the field and shape overall personality development.
Oscar Lobo expressed gratitude to PACT Foundation for supporting the initiative and urged participants to attend regularly to make the most of the training sessions. He stressed the importance of enjoying the game while learning and growing through the experience.
Adding a holistic dimension to the programme, Shriya Shetgaunkar conducted a session on sports nutrition, offering insights into how proper diet and lifestyle choices can enhance physical performance and overall well-being among young athletes.
Founded by Dr Ashwin Fernandes, PACT Foundation works towards creating meaningful social impact through education, youth empowerment and community development. Through initiatives such as the Happy School Project, scholarships and grassroots collaborations, the foundation aims to build a more inclusive and opportunity-driven future for Goa.
The football camp stands as another step in that direction, combining sport, education and empowerment to inspire the next generation.
