Archdiocese of Goa and Daman Ordains 12 New Priests at Se Cathedral, Old Goa

Old Goa, April 29, 2026: In a spiritually uplifting ceremony held at the historic Se Cathedral, the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman ordained 12 new priests, marking a significant milestone for the Catholic faithful in the region.

The ordination ceremony, which began at 3:30 PM, was presided over by His Eminence Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao, Archbishop of Goa and Daman, in the presence of Auxiliary Bishop Simao Fernandes and Bishop Agnelo Pinheiro.

A large gathering of priests, religious members, and lay faithful witnessed the ordination of Deacons Cidroy Fernandes (Mandrem), Bevan Rebello (Galgibaga), Aaron Dsouza (Colvale), Nion Colaco (Nuvem), Canjoy Fernandes (Velim), Valancio Fernandes (Santa Cruz), Elidio Noronha (Salvador do Mundo), Lindon Sequeira (Navelim), Dion Rodrigues (Navelim), Sanvy Cardoso (Utorda), Jofhuo Fernandes (Cansaulim), and Aestrony Costa (Betalbatim).

In his homily, Cardinal Ferrao emphasized the profound responsibility of priesthood, drawing inspiration from the image of the “Good Shepherd.” He urged the newly ordained priests to embody the heart, hands, and eyes of Jesus—serving with love, compassion, and mercy. He highlighted that a priest must be sensitive to the needs of the people, dedicated to service, and guided by a merciful vision.

Following the ordination, the priests received their official appointments from Auxiliary Bishop Simao Fernandes and will now begin their pastoral duties across various parishes in Goa.

The ceremony concluded with heartfelt congratulations and blessings from Cardinal Ferrao, encouraging the new priests to lead lives rooted in service, humility, and faith.

The event was seamlessly conducted with Fr. Snyter Pereira as the Master of Ceremonies, while Fr. Candido Fernandes coordinated the liturgy. The choir, led by Fr. Romeo Monteiro, added a soulful dimension to the sacred celebration.

This ordination stands as a testament to the enduring strength of faith and the continued commitment of the Archdiocese to nurturing spiritual leadership in Goa.
