Oxford team emerged victorious in the All-Goa Under-17 Leather Ball Cricket Tournament after defeating Banjara Cricket Club by 11 runs in a thrilling final held at NAPEX Ground.
The tournament was organised by Visual Link Cricketers in association with the Goa Cricket Association.
Batting first, Oxford posted a competitive total of 157/5 in 20 overs, led by captain Afridโs sensational unbeaten knock of 85 runs. Priyanshu Verma also played a crucial supporting role with 38 runs.
For Banjara Cricket Club, Chetan Lamani, Ansh Harmalkar, and Parth Sankpal picked up one wicket each.
In reply, Banjara Cricket Club fought hard in the chase. Captain Sai Naik led from the front with an impressive 72-run knock, while Parth Sankpal added 26 runs. At one stage, Banjara looked set for victory at 130/2, but Oxfordโs disciplined bowling turned the game around.
Banjara eventually finished at 146/6 in 20 overs, falling short by 11 runs.
Usman Ghani played a crucial role with the ball by claiming two wickets during the pressure phase. Shivam Singh, Afrid, and Rumaan Mulam chipped in with one wicket each.
Afridโs exceptional all-round performance proved decisive in Oxfordโs title-winning campaign.
The final also highlighted the strong contribution of Next Gen Cricket Academy, with head coach Keenan Vaz and assistant coach Tausif Mulla mentoring over 20 players who featured in the final.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Chetan Desai, Chairman of Shree Mallikarjun and Chetan Manju Desai College of Arts, Science and Commerce, along with Siddesh Salunke, Paresh Phadte, Pandhari Gauns, and Vijay Kudtarkar.
